Mercedes-Benz First To Offer Leasing In China
Beijing/Berlin, Feb 26, 2009

Beijing/Berlin – Mercedes-Benz Auto Finance China (MBAFC) will become the first auto finance company to offer vehicle leasing in China. After entering the Chinese market with financing and insurance offerings in November 2005, MBAFC – a subsidiary of Berlin-based Daimler Financial Services AG – now completed its product range by adding leasing to its services.

„We welcome the government’s decision to enable auto finance companies to offer leasing in China, as we believe this will have a positive impact on the Chinese vehicle market,” said Ulrich Walker, Chairman and CEO of Daimler Northeast Asia. “In this economic environment, we want to give consumers as many financial tools as possible to be able to drive a Mercedes-Benz, whether it's a purchase, vehicle financing or leasing. While leasing is very new in China, we believe it has potential to grow over the mid-term, especially as consumers understand more about the flexible and attractive financing options.”

Starting in March, Mercedes-Benz Auto Finance Chinawill begin by focusing on corporate, fleet leasing to companies primarily in Beijing, and begin to expand the offer to consumers through its retail outlets throughout China. MBAFC’s leasing program will also cover insurance.

“By leasing a vehicle, consumers will be able to drive a Mercedes-Benz, leverage their existing money in other ways, and have the flexibility of changing to a new car more frequently,” said Wolf Bay, President and CEO of MBAFC. “Our competitive rates and additional services, such as insurance, provide customers a ‘one-stop shopping’ solution to their transportation needs, and we believe this service has potential to further develop. We are thankful for the China Banking and Regulatory Commission for its ongoing support. ”

Mercedes-Benz Auto Finance China provides a number of vehicle financing and insurance options for Mercedes-Benz cars, trucks and vans in China. At year-end the company managed a contract volume of €328 million.
Daimler Financial Services is a leading contender in the financial services industry by providing tailor-made leasing and financing solutions to promote the vehicle sales of the Daimler Group’s brands worldwide. With a comprehensive product portfolio including financing, leasing, insurance concepts and fleet-management services, Daimler Financial Services is responsible for a contract volume of
€63 billion. Worldwide more than every third new group vehicle is financed or leased by Daimler Financial Services. Working in close cooperation with the Daimler vehicle brands, Daimler Financial Services strengthens customer loyalty to the group’s brands and generates new earnings potential for the group. Operating in more than 40 countries, the Berlin-based company has a workforce of more than 7,100 employees worldwide.

Mercedes-Benz Cars Sells 62,200 Vehicles in January
Stuttgart, Feb 06, 2009

53,900 Mercedes-Benz brand vehicles delivered to customers

smart fortwo begins the new year with rising sales

Just four weeks after being released for sale more than 30,000 orders for the new E-Class sedan in Western Europe

Stuttgart – Due to the ongoing downturn on almost all markets and the upcoming model changeover for the E-Class, Mercedes-Benz Cars sold a total of 62,200 Mercedes-Benz, AMG, smart and Maybach brand vehicles in January (January 2008: 90,400, minus 31 percent). A total of 53,900 customers opted to purchase a vehicle of the Mercedes-Benz brand in January (January 2008: 82,300, minus 35 percent).

The smart fortwo deliveries increased by four percent worldwide to 8,300 units (January 2008: 8,000). Following its market success in the U.S. in 2008, the innovative two-seater will be introduced to China, Brazil and Denmark this year. The smart fortwo is currently available in 37 markets on five continents.

At the beginning of the year, Mercedes-Benz presented the new E-Class sedan in Detroiton the occasion of the North American International Auto Show. The vehicle was released for sale in Western Europeon January 12. ”Sales of the new E-Class get off to an excellent start. To date we received more than 30,000 orders for the new E-Class sedan - even before the official market launch in March“, said Dr. Klaus Maier, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars. The new E-Class will become available in other markets this summer.

The new E-Class received the accolade of “2009 value retention champion” awarded every year by the motoring magazine Auto-Bild. In three years time, the new E-Class will be the car with the highest resale value in the upper-range segment. According to calculations made by the market research institute Bähr & Fess Forecast in Saarbrücken, the new E 250 CDI will then realise up to 62.5 percent of its current value.

Even after the reform of the motor vehicle tax in Germany, the high fuel efficiency of the new E-Class will be a major benefit for Mercedes-Benz customers. The E 250 CDI, for example, delivers 150 kW/204 hp, but has an average fuel consumption of only 5.3 liters of diesel per 100 km, which corresponds to 139 grams of CO2 per kilometer. In Germany, drivers of an E 250 CDI will therefore only have to pay a total of €247 in motor vehicle taxes over the first three years, whereas previously the total bill would have amounted to €339.68.

BMW Group sells 70,405 vehicles in January

Strong demand for new BMW 7 Series

Munich. Ongoing challenges in the global automotive markets resulted in a decrease in sales at the BMW Group in January. In the month under review the Group sold 70,405 (prev.yr.: 92,849) vehicles of its three automobile brands, BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce – 24.2% fewer than in January 2008.

In the first month of the new year the BMW brand reported 60,248 (prev.yr.: 77,351) deliveries - 22.1% lower than for the same period last year. In the month under review 10,120 (prev.yr.: 15,457 / -34,5%) customers bought a MINI brand vehicle.
The MINI sales reduction was in part due to the lack of availability of the MINI Convertible which ended production in mid 2008 with the new model launch scheduled for March 28th. The previous model accounted for a substantial share of total MINI retail, averaging 16% of sales. More than 164,000 of MINI’s soft-top models were sold between 2004 and 2008, which by far exceeded expectations. In January Rolls-Royce handed over 37 automobiles to customers
(prev.yr.: 41 / -9.8%).

Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Sales and Marketing: “Current market conditions remain extremely challenging. However, our Efficient Dynamics strategy is expected to continue to provide momentum for the BMW Group with more and more European countries moving towards CO2-based vehicle taxes. No other manufacturer reduced its fleet’s CO2 emissions more than the BMW Group last year.”

Deliveries of the BMW 7 Series continue to do well as a result of the European market launch of the new model. With 2,498 units sold, 5.1% more vehicles were delivered in January than in the same month last year. Sales of BMW’s flagship are expected to get another strong boost when the Series is also launched in China (in late January) and the United States (in mid-March). These markets accounted for more than 50% of the previous model’s total retail. Demand for the BMW X6 also continues to be strong, with 2,846 deliveries, as well as for the new BMW 1 Series Coupé, which saw a major increase in sales (+81.6%) to 1,295 (prev.yr.: 713) units.

BMW Motorrad started the year well. Against the overall negative market trend, BMW Motorrad exceeded the previous year’s sales (prev.yr.: 3,689/ +1,1%) for January with 3,731 units sold. This was largely due to continued strong demand for the F 650 GS and F 800 GS two-cylinder motorcycles which were introduced during the course of last year. The company expects to receive a further boost from the launch of the revised K models K1300R, K1300S and K1300GT on the market in February.

Audi’s market shares continue to grow in January

Around 56,200 cars sold worldwide

Gaining market share in Germany, western Europe and the USA

Sales chief Schwarzenbauer: “Audi’s strategy remains expansive”

Audi sold around 56,200 cars in January. As expected, sales fell short of the record figures for the same month last year due to the worldwide economic crisis (down 28.6 percent; 2008: 78,679). In comparison to its competitors, however, the Audi brand could strengthen its position. In the midst of sharply declining markets, Audi further expanded its market share in Germany as well as Western Europe and the USA in the midst of a sharply declining market.

“This year won’t be easy for anyone. At Audi, our strategy remains expansive: In the first six months alone we’ll bring six new models onto the market,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management for Marketing and Sales at AUDI AG. “Our young product range has been well-received in comparison with our competitors – this is proven by our growing market shares.” Some 100,000 readers of the German trade magazine auto, motor und sport judged the Audi A4, Audi A6 allroad quattro and the new Audi Q5 to be among the best cars of 2009.
The decline in sales in the last month reflects both lackluster consumer confidence and Audi’s extraordinary sales levels of the previous year. In January 2008 the new generation of the highest-volume Audi model – the A4 Sedan – was available throughout Europe for the first time. In January 2009, sales in Europe were 31.2 percent below last year’s levels across all model lines, with around 37,700 vehicles sold (2008: 54,843).

The decline in the USA to 4,722 amounted to a 26.4 percent drop (2008: 6,418). In the Asia-Pacific region, the brand with the four rings sold around 10,400 cars, 22 percent less than last year (2008: 13,314).

Audi has nonetheless succeeded in further strengthening its position within the problematic market environment. The brand’s market share in Germany rose to 7.8 percent (January 2008: 6.7 percent). In the USA, Audi’s share of the premium car market rose by 0.5 percentage points to 7.2 percent of the market. In Western Europe, the Ingolstadt-based carmaker’s market share rose to around 5 percent, according to current projections (last year: 3.9 percent).

The brand also grew in absolute numbers within some markets. Audi in Australia, for example, reported a further increase of 5.5 percent, with 1,081 units sold (2008: 1,025). And in India (109 units, up 94.6 percent) as well as in the Middle East (510 units, up 0.2 percent), more customers purchased cars from the Ingolstadt-based premium car brand than during the same month last year.
AUDI AG sold a total of 1,003,000 cars in 2008 and thus achieved its thirteenth consecutive record year. Audi produces vehicles in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm (Germany), Györ (Hungary), Changchun (China) and Brussels (Belgium). Aurangabad in India saw the start of local production of the Audi A6 at the end of 2007 and of the Audi A4 in early October 2008. The company is active in more than 100 markets worldwide. AUDI AG’s wholly owned subsidiaries include Automobili Lamborghini Holding S.p.A. in Sant’Agata Bolognese (Italy) and quattro GmbH in Neckarsulm. Audi currently employs around 57,000 people worldwide, including 45,000 in Germany. The brand with the four rings invests more than €2 billion each year in order to sustain the company’s technological lead embodied in its “Vorsprung durch Technik” slogan. Audi plans to significantly increase the number of models in its portfolio by 2015 to 40. The Audi brand celebrates its 100th birthday in 2009. The company was founded by August Horch in Zwickau on July 16, 1909; he named it Audi after the Latin translation of his surname (“hark!”).

AUDI AG will present the complete results for the 2008 business year at its Annual Press Conference on March 10, 2009 in Ingolstadt.

Best year ever: 2008 – Record sales for Mercedes-AMG GmbH
Affalterbach , Feb 04, 2009

24,200 AMG high-performance vehicles delivered worldwide

Germany is second-strongest market with 34 per cent growth

73 per cent increase for AMG sports package

Mercedes-AMG GmbH is celebrating the most successful year in
its company history. AMG, the performance brand within Mercedes-Benz Cars, succeeded in increasing unit sales worldwide by 19 per cent, selling 24,200
vehicles (previous year 20,300) and bucking the market trend in extremely difficult conditions. As in previous years, the USA was the strongest market for AMG with a share of 38 per cent of total sales. Germany came in second place (13 per cent), followed by Japan (8 per cent). The German market has developed very positively with a clear increase of 34 per cent compared with the previous year. The greatest growth markets of 2008 include amongst others China and Brazil with rates of increase of 260 per cent and 565 per cent respectively. With these figures AMG confirms its leading position amongst high-performance vehicle brands and at the same time further expands its market share in the high-performance segment.

The C 63 AMG made a considerable contribution to the success of 2008 with 8100 vehicles delivered. The C 63 AMG, available as a saloon and as an estate,
is thereby the most successful AMG automobile of all time. The new SL 63 AMG also developed positively, with 3,050 enthusiastic purchasers in 2008.

In addition, a further chapter of the Black Series success story was relayed to the world with the SL 65 AMG Black Series, limited to 350 units – and enchanted the media and demanding AMG customers alike.

Successful: AMG sports package and AMG Driving Academy

The AMG sports package also made a positive contribution to the year's success. The striking sporty equipment packages are available for numerous Mercedes lines and were sought after by more customers than ever in 2008; the increase over 2007 amounted to 73 per cent.

The AMG Driving Academy, founded in 2007, registered twice as many applications as in 2007. The strength of demand for high-class racing circuit training and events has led AMG to undertake a considerable expansion of the AMG Driving Academy options for 2009.

Individual customer attention and first class customer care also played a crucial role in AMG's continually increasing success. Hence AMG is to establish 175 new AMG Performance Centers worldwide by the end of next year: its engagement in intensifying customer relations now covers 15 countries in total.

Environmentally compatible vehicle development initiatives

In addition to its passion for high-performance sports vehicles, Mercedes-AMG GmbH is also committed to social responsibility and is intensifying its engagement in the development of environmentally compatible vehicles. AMG is already "Best in Class" amongst its performance car subsidiary and sporting brand competitors in the field of consumption. All AMG vehicles will surpass the EU-5 standards which come into force from 2009 and also the EU-6 standards which will apply from 2014. To reduce consumption, AMG is shortly to introduce efficiency-increasing engine-generator management as well as regulated oil and water pumps. From 2010 AMG will equip its vehicles with direct petrol injection and with start-stop function. Through constantly increasing efficiency, AMG will from 2012 achieve a reduction in consumption of 30 per cent in comparison to present levels.

AMG was founded in 1967 by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher and
is considered to be a pioneer in the field of motor sport and refinement. The cooperation contract agreed with Daimler-Benz AG in 1990 was followed in 1999 by gradual integration into the then DaimlerChrysler AG. On 1 January 2005 DaimlerChrysler AG took 100 per cent of the shares. Today Mercedes-AMG GmbH is a vehicle manufacturer and AMG is the performance brand within Mercedes-Benz Cars. The subsidiary firm of Daimler AG is uniquely specialised in the field of high-performance vehicles and, with its sporty saloons, coupés, cabriolets, roadsters, SUVs and specially produced one-off vehicles, offers a product portfolio which leaves no customer wish unfulfilled. Mercedes-AMG possesses overall responsibility for design, aerodynamics and interior as well as drive system, engine, chassis, brakes and electronics, and ultimately for the final release of the AMG complete vehicle. In addition, marketing and sales-related aspects are handled independently.

Mercedes-Benz Delivers 1.5 Million units of the E-Class
Stuttgart, Dec 19, 2008

  • The E-Class is one of the best selling models in the upper-range segment worldwide

  • A total of around 12 million units of the E-Class and its predecessor models have been sold to date

  • The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been the epitome of safety, comfort, and quality for more than 60 years

Stuttgart – Mercedes-Benz has delivered 1.5 million units of the current E-Class series to customers since the model’s market launch six years ago. “The current E-Class and its predecessor models have been the ‘heart’ of Mercedes-Benz for more than 60 years now,” says Dr. Klaus Maier, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars. “With its typical brand attributes that include safety, comfort, innovation, economy, and quality, the E-Class has delighted around 12 million customers worldwide across eight model generations.”

A total of 1,270,000 sedans from the current E-Class series have been delivered worldwide since the model was launched in 2002, while 230,000 customers have opted for the station wagon version. The most important markets for the E-Class are Germany and the U.S., each of which accounts for approximately 25 percent of total sales. The most popular E-Class engine versions are the E 220 CDI and E350, each of which attracts ten percent of all E-Class customers. Some 40 percent of all customers select a diesel-powered vehicle.

In 2007 innovative BlueTEC diesel technology was launched for the first time in a passenger car in Europe - in the E 300 BlueTEC. This European introduction was preceded by the launch of the E320 BlueTEC in the U.S. in October 2006. With BlueTEC, Mercedes-Benz has succeeded in greatly reducing emissions and ensuring compliance with the EU5 emission standard. Innovative BlueTEC technology has thus made the diesel engine one of the cleanest and most efficient drive systems in the world.

The “Germany - Land of Ideas” initiative of the German federal government and German industry presented Mercedes-Benz with an award in January 2008 for innovative research in connection with the brand’s introduction of BlueTEC technology to Europe. In addition, the E 320 BlueTEC was chosen “2007 World Green Car” by automotive journalists from 22 countries in April of last year. The current E-Class model series has received numerous other awards since its market launch in 2002, including an award for Best Car in the Upper Mid-Range Segment from Auto Motor und Sport magazine.

In the fall of 2006, the E-Class also clearly demonstrated its typical Mercedes brand attributes of exemplary safety, comfort, and economy during the longest long-distance diesel endurance test in automobile history: 36 E-Class cars went on a transcontinental marathon, with each vehicle driven approximately 14,000 kilometers from Paris to Beijing over 26 days. In this endurance test under extreme conditions, Mercedes-Benz once again demonstrated the top performance of its ultramodern diesel engines in terms of emissions, fuel economy, and reliability.

Mercedes-Benz Delivers 500,000 Units of the New C-Class
Stuttgart, Nov 21, 2008

  • C-Class sedan worldwide market leader since the beginning of the year

  • New generation of four-cylinder diesel engines in the C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Prime Edition

  • 250,000th C-Class rolls off the assembly line at the Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen plant

Stuttgart - Mercedes-Benz has delivered 500,000 new C-Class models from the 204 series to customers around the world since the vehicle’s market launch in March 2007. “The C-Class sedan has maintained its position as the worldwide market leader in its segment since the beginning of the year”, says Dr. Klaus Maier, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars. “Sales of the new station wagon continue to increase as well. In the first year after its market launch sales of the station wagon are 20 percent higher than the figure recorded for the predecessor model during the same period.” Around 440,000 new C-Class sedans have been sold since the model’s market launch, and over 60,000 customers have taken delivery of the station wagon version since that model’s introduction in the fall of 2007.

The most popular engine for the new C-Class is the C 220 CDI, which is the choice of a third of all customers. The same engine has been chosen by almost half of the station wagon model’s customers worldwide. Also popular is the C 200 Kompressor, which is ordered by 20 percent of all C-Class sedan customers.

Mercedes-Benz began taking orders in October for the new generation of four-cylinder diesel engines to be featured in the C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Prime Edition. The new engine will be available from December and notwithstanding exceptional performance only consumes an average of 5.2 liters of fuel per 100 km (NEDC). Also this past October, Mercedes-Benz presented its fourth C-Class BlueEFFICIENCY model - the C 350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY with second-generation gasoline direct injection. This new sedan consumes around 14 percent less fuel than the conventional C 350 model. The other C-Class BlueEFFICIENCY models are the C 180 KOMPRESSOR and the C 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, both of which consume up to 12 percent less fuel while offering the same high level of comfort that is typical for Mercedes-Benz automobiles.

C-Class sedans are produced at Mercedes-Benz plants in Sindelfingen, Bremen, East London and in Beijing. The C-Class station wagon is manufactured exclusively at the Bremen plant. This past summer, the factory in Sindelfingen received the J.D. Power Platinum Award for the best plant quality worldwide. The facility was also recently named “Factory of the Year” in recognition of its outstanding quality management system for C-Class production. The 250,000th C-Class - an iridium silver metallic C 220 CDI sedan - rolled off the assembly line in Sindelfingen just a short time ago and will soon be delivered to a customer in Japan.

The new C-Class is especially popular among customers in Germany, who account for roughly 25 percent of total C-Class sales. The sedan has also maintained its leadership on the German market since the beginning of this year. The second most important market, with an approximately 20 percent share of worldwide sales, is the U.S., which is followed by the UK, Italy, and South Africa.

The clear visual differentiation of the three lines Classic, Elegance and Avantgarde has proved to be very successful: half of the customers in Germany have opted for the Avantgarde line - and this share is even higher in several core markets.
